Lewis Hamilton's mistakes
Let’s get something straight. What Lewis Hamilton did in the wet at Silverstone at the British Grand Prix was absolutely brilliant. While his rivals slipped and slid all over Northamptonshire Hamilton produced a masterclass of driving in the rain so perfect that even Ayrton Senna would have purred with delight. It was as if he was in a completely different race to every other driver on the grid and it was pretty obvious afterwards just how much winning his first British Grand Prix, and in such a manner, meant to him.
So, does this make me a hypocritical member of Her Majesty’s media after being previously critical? And does Lewis’s exceptional drive represent a giant two fingers to his critics?
Well, no and secondly, I hope not. Let’s just stick to the facts here. There have been some cock-ups in recent weeks, including the pit lane shunt into Kimi, the mistake at Magny Cours that prevented any points, and qualifying at Silverstone where Lewis, by his own admission, pushed too hard and entered the gravel. Also, it would have been good if the JB versus Lewis charity triathlon could have been arranged, after all, for the end of the season. Lewis would have shown himself to be a good sport (which we know he is), and a charity would have gained at a time when the sport desperately needs some good news but is instead dominated currently by Max’s court case that brings a whole new meaning to the term “whiplash” in Formula One™.
